A number of UNC Charlotte’s graduate programs were among those included in the national 2019 U.S. News & World Report Best Graduate Schools rankings.

The Belk College of Business’ part-time MBA program was ranked in the top 25 percent of the nation’s best by U.S. News & World Report. In addition, CEO Magazine once again recognized Belk College’s MBA as a top program in the nation; it was named a “Tier 1” program for North American universities in the newly released 2018 CEO Magazine Global MBA Rankings.

The Cato College of Education ranked 78th nationally, beating out the likes of the University of South Carolina and the University of Alabama, which tied with other universities at 84. The college’s graduate special education program is ranked 16th nationally.

“Each year, we prepare hundreds of teachers, counselors and administrators for careers in an array of educational environments,” said Dawson Hancock, associate dean for research and graduate studies. “Committed to preparing highly effective and ethical professionals who have a positive impact on children, youth, families, communities and schools in urban and other diverse settings, our graduates routinely indicate that much of their professional success was a result of their educational experiences in the Cato College of Education.”

The College of Health and Human Services’ graduate program in social work tied for 54th in the U.S. News & World Report rankings, up four places from the previous year; it is in the top 25 percent of all graduate social work programs nationally.

Schnavia Hatcher, chair of the School of the Social Work, said, "The upward trend in national rankings is a testament to our mission to prepare social work leaders in areas of culturally informed, community-engaged practice, policy and research, with a particular emphasis on persistent and emerging social problems in rapidly diversifying urban areas."

From the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences, the nationally accredited Gerald G. Fox Master of Public Administration program was among the top 21 percent of 282 public affairs programs nationwide as ranked by U.S. News & World Report.

“This ranking reflects a top tier program on the rise and is a testament to the quality of our program,” said MPA Director Tom Barth. “We see this as a recognition of our talented faculty, who value high quality teaching, research and community outreach; our staff who are committed to supporting our students; and a community of practitioners at every organizational level who work closely with the program to provide students with internships, fellowships, and professional networking opportunities so critical to our students building quality careers.”

UNC Charlotte’s MPA program ranked with or ahead of much larger ones at other public research universities, including Cleveland State, Brigham Young, Florida International, the University of Baltimore and Penn State. Read more on CLAS Exchange.
